Tape Kingz began in New York City in 1988. We were the first company to brand DJ's mixtapes and promote them outside of New York City's five boroughs. While living in Harlem in 1988 Tape Kingz founder Iain used to buy the cassettes of Harlem favorites Kid Capri, Brucie Bee etc from J&J Music Variety on 124th and 7th Avenue just a few blocks from where he was living.

The original idea was to bring these uptown flavors to Brooklyn and sell them amongst friends in Bed-Stuy where he would hang out with friends in the late 80's, but that soon expanded to doing business all over the world as the New York sound ruled Hip Hop. Relationships followed with all of New York City's top DJ's and we would help promote them and all of this amazing music from New York to places all over the world.

Tape Kingz was the first Mixtape company to advertise in The Source magazine and actually stood alone as the only Mixtape advertiser for over two years while others played catch up. We have been honored to work with and have great friendships with some of New York City's legendary hip hop personalities, that is what motivates us and continues to inspire us.
